Snow removal is critical in the event of a fire emergency. Crews have been working continuously to remove snow from buried fire hydrants. We ask that snow plowing done by private contractors or customers be done in a manner as not to bury fire hydrants. Thank you to all the residents and businesses who have taken the time to shovel out their own fire hydrant.

Flushing Program

As part of our ongoing maintenance program, Pennichuck will be completing a comprehensive flushing of the water mains, within different locations, based on your system’s schedule in My Water System. We are scheduled to begin the flushing program on April 10, 2017. This schedule is subject to change as weather conditions and length of flushing times may vary.

The schedule in My Water system is our projected schedule based on estimated completion times and optimal weather conditions. It will be updated regularly with any changes to this estimated schedule. It is important to refer to My Water System as the date of flushing in your area approaches to confirm that we will be in your area as projected.

Flushing is done to maintain water quality throughout the distribution system.

Water flowing from a hydrant

This program involves opening flushing valves to create increased water flows which dislodge and clean out naturally occurring sedimentation in the pipelines.

Minor flooding of streets, periods of low pressure and/or periods you may be without water could occur.

Discolored water may result from the flushing so we recommend that you fill bottles with water for use during this time. If you experience colored water after the scheduled completion time, please run the cold water for 5 to 10 minutes to clear your service line. If your water does not clear up, or if you have concerns regarding flushing, please call Customer Service at 800-553-5191.

Please avoid washing clothes during the dates and times detailed in your system.

Pennichuck would like to reassure its customers that the water is safe to drink and any discoloration should clear up after the water is run for a few minutes.

Daytime Flushing will occur Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Nighttime Flushing will occur Sunday through Thursday nights between the hours of 10:30 pm to 6:00 am.
